Intermediate Features and Informational-level Constraint on Analogical Retrieval

چکیده
Two different sorts of retrieval in analogical tasks, novice-like and expert-like, have been demonstrated in psychological experiments. With recent computational work in object recognition as an inspiration, we propose the computation of intermediate features, and their use as triggers for retrieval, as the relevant constraint at the informational level of characterization of the retrieval process as seen in experts. We conduct computational experiments which show that, in conjunction with a feature-matching retrieval mechanism, features of an intermediate size and complexity give the strongest ana-

Analogical Retrieval via Intermediate Features: The Goldilocks Hypothesis
The cognitive process of analogical reasoning has generally been thought to occur in at least three stages: retrieval of a source description from memory, mapping of that source description to the target description, and transfer of relationships from source to target. Here we are concerned with the first stage, the retrieval of relevant sources from long-term memory for their use in analogical...
متن کاملImage Retrieval Using Dynamic Weighting of Compressed High Level Features Framework with LER Matrix
In this article, a fabulous method for database retrieval is proposed. The multi-resolution modified wavelet transform for each of image is computed and the standard deviation and average are utilized as the textural features. Then, the proposed modified bit-based color histogram and edge detectors were utilized to define the high level features. A feedback-based dynamic weighting of shap...
متن کاملComparative Study of Degree of Bilingualism in Lexical Retrieval and Language Learning Strategies
This study compares lexical retrieval amongst monolinguals and intermediate bilinguals and advanced bilinguals. It also investigates the possible effects of their language learning strategies on their respective lexical retrieval advantage. The study used a mixed methods design and the groups consisted of 20 Persian near-monolinguals, 20 Persian-English intermediate level bilinguals, and 20 Per...
متن کاملConstraints on Analogical Mapping: A Comparison of Three Models By
Three theories of analogy have been proposed which are supported by computational models and data from experiments on human analogical abilities. In this paper, we show how these theories can be unified within a common metatheoretical framework which distinguishes between levels of informational, behavioural and hardware constraints. This framework makes clear the distinctions between three com...
متن کاملToward Understanding WH-Questions: A Statistical Analysis
We describe research centering on the statistical analysis of WHquestions. This work is motivated by the long-term goal of enhancing the performance of information retrieval systems. We identified informational goals associated with users’ queries posed to an Internet resource, and built a statistical model which infers these informational goals from shallow linguistic features of user queries....
